It is thought that the current ex-coaching inn stands on the site of a 16th century tavern. The Marquess of Exeter is itself a Grade II listed property located in a picturesque village of historical importance. The building is constructed from local ironstone and retains its thatched roof. Internally the floors are large flagstones and the ceilings supported by old beams and wooden posts although the restaurant area to the rear is more modern and serves a menu based on both traditional and Indian cuisine. Overnight accommodation is available in an annexe behind the main building. Owned by Marston's there is normally just one cask ale on hand-pump.
