Cider makers
Manton Hollow Cidery is within the Rutland county boundary. It was established in 2021 with the aim of producing high quality, natural cider from traditional orchards rich in biodiversity. The cider is made by Charlie Udale and his friends at the family farm in Manton, Rutland. The fruit is harvested by hand from orchards at Manton Hollow and nearby Lyndon Top. Only the finest cider fruit is used, and winter pruning routines ensure high sun exposure for maximum sweetness and aroma. The apples are ‘sweated’ for at least a month before milling so ripening can complete. After the juice has been gently pressed on a handmade, traditional rack and cloth press, it is fermented by yeasts and bacteria that occur naturally on the fruit for maximum complexity.
